Spotlight Sunday - David Wolfson

We are less than one week away from the world premiere of The Faith Operas and we thought what better time to find out what David Wolfson thinks of opera without borders. Here is more about him and his work. If you do not have your tickets yet for Saturday night CLICK HERE. You can also find out more information about the show by clicking HERE.

David Wolfson is currently working towards his PhD in composition at Rutgers University, and has taught at Rutgers University, Montclair State University and Hunter College. He is enjoying an eclectic career, having composed opera, musical theatre, touring children’s musicals, and incidental music for plays; choral music, band music, orchestral music, chamber music, art songs, and music for solo piano; comedy songs, cabaret songs and one memorable score for an amusement park big-headed-costumed-character show. Current projects include two musicals and a chamber opera. His CD Seventeen Windows, featuring the solo piano suite Seventeen Windows and the Sonata for Cello and Piano, is available from Albany Records, iTunes and Amazon.com. Upcoming engagements:

Play Like a Winner (with Erik Johnke, book and lyrics) will be produced this summer as part of the New York Musical Festival in July, exact dates TBA.

The Central Michigan Unitarian Fellowship Choir will be premiering the choral cycle, The Seven Principles on a service on May 7th.

Tom Piercy and David are premiering my piece A Single Step for bass clarinet and piano at Bargemusic in Brooklyn on September 22nd.

Here is what David has to say about opera without borders -

Here’s a first thought about “Opera Without Borders”: many people perceive opera as having a wall of elitism around it. Hartford Opera Theatre is a terrific example of why this isn’t necessarily true: they’re a bunch of regular folks who happen to have amazing voices. I love telling stories with these people. Pull up a chair and listen. The stories are about you, after all.
