Today for Spotlight Sunday, we are pleased to feature the Hartford Independent Chamber Orchestra! HICO will be playing for the world premiere of Jessica Rudman's opera Marie Curie Learns to Swim and in the song cycle Lady Macbeth. Lead by maestro Dan D'Addio, HICO is one of the few orchestra's in the Hartford area dedicated to producing and performing new music! We are thrilled to collaborate with HICO again and hope you enjoy learning about HICO and their mission.
Comprised of a roster of premiere musicians from around the country, the Hartford Independent Chamber Orchestra is devoted to enrichment through superb artistry. HICO forges its independent and wildly unique path through the canon of musical literature, championing non-standard repertoire for chamber orchestra and large chamber ensembles, engaging audiences across Greater Hartford and beyond with programming aimed at broadening musical perspectives.
Now entering its tenth concert season, HICO has appeared as a guest ensemble at the Women Composers Festival of Hartford, Central Connecticut State University, and The Hartt School of the University of Hartford, among others. Their 2017-2018 concert season will include a residency with the Hartt School Young Composers Project, performances at the New Britain Museum for American Art, and performances at local Hartford venues such as Black Eyed Sally's.
With numerous world premieres to their name, HICO has introduced some of today’s leading young composers and concert soloists to the music scene. In April 2013, the ensemble presented five world premieres on one concert program from four of the East Coast’s up and coming young composers.
